But... I was told to bring a tape measure:
New construction, self storage facility, walls up, doors not installed yet.
We roll in as a team to verify unit counts and sizes so we can build out the system before opening.
Plan was simple: measure everything, confirm reality matches the drawings, get it right the first time.
I showed up with a laser measure… and a 50-foot tape.
New tech to move fast.
Old school backup to make sure it gets done right.
A few others had basic tape measures.
A couple showed up with nothing.
And one guy… showed up with a 3-foot tape measure.
Same meeting.
Same plan.
Same expectations.
And the three foot tape stuck with me.
Not because of the tape measure, but because it’s how people approach the same job very differently.
Some people show up ready for reality.
Others show up hoping reality adjusts to them.
The gap between those two shows up in everything.
